About the jury of various mathematical events
As always, we first provide information about the jury and for the jury. Our young mathematicians, as soon as they become adults (that is, students of universities), immediately believe that they know everything and know all the events. And next to an adult – a teacher, parents, heads of circles, etc., who would tell and remind about certain events – there is no. Therefore, let's hope that at the beginning of the message our future jury members will not be forgiven.
This year we plan to more actively lead the "Jury" category on our website and list all potential jury members. Therefore, at the beginning of the academic and Olympic year, we need to know who we can focus on. Usually these are our students of 1-2 courses, but as always, the most active and knowledgeable senior students should pass on their experience.
The following registration will be the main one where we will collect data on those jury members on whom we can rely. Here at the same time we will collect your information about your participation in the Kyiv Tournament of Mathematical Battles (September – December 2018), the All-Ukrainian Tournament of Mathematical Battles (October 27 – November 3, 2018), the Kyiv City Olympiad (January – February 2019) and the selection of the Kyiv team for the IV stage of the All-Ukrainian Olympiad (February 2019).
Accordingly, we need information about your desires and opportunities to participate in these events.
Registration for jury members will be provided soon. I ask everyone to respond, even those who will not participate in our events for the first time, because certain polling points will be relevant.
Selection of Ukraine team for international mathematical olympiads
The event will be held as usual for 7 days – Sunday October 21, the day of arrival, Saturday – October 27. Place of residence and nutrition of IPO of KNU them.Taras Shevchenko, there will be held appeals and summed up. Tours will be held at the Faculty of Computer Science and Cybernetics. The cost of participation will be announced in early September, when we find out this year's rates of stay in the IPO. The winners of the IV stage of the All-Ukrainian Olympiad will take part in the cost, everyone else wanting to test their strength – for twice the price. If a participant enters one of the selected groups, the additional funds paid to these participants will be refunded. With the participation of 5 or more participants from the educational institution not from Kyiv, the school/lyceum should send an educator to care for the participants not from Kyiv. Usually in recent years, 1 educator takes care of Kharkiv participants, the other – all others. Therefore, the educators themselves in recent years represented Kharkiv FML No. 27 and LFML. Registration for participation in the selection at the IMO will be announced in early September. If the geography of the participants changes, then perhaps we will have educators from other regions. This will all become known upon completion of registration.
Selection for the International Mathematical Olympiads will be held in two age groups – the senior group "MMO" and the junior group "Junior". It is planned to conduct 4 rounds – each of which will be offered to participants for 4 tasks for 4.5 hours.
The tasks of the first two rounds will be the same for all participants of the selection – regardless of the class of study. At the end of these two rounds, based on the results shown for participation in 3-4 rounds, the jury will divide all participants into two groups, where the tasks will be different.
The MMO Group will be focused on preparing the future team of Ukraine for the performance at the 60th International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO), which will be held in Bath (England) in July 2018. No more than 12 students will be selected in this group. With them we will hold short-term meetings (6-8 days) with the invitation of Ukrainian and foreign lecturers on the basis of the IPO of KNU or /and UFML them. Taras Shevchenko. Meetings are scheduled for November, January, March, May and June.
Junior Group will be formed from no more than 15 students of 8-10 grades. For this group, several short-term meetings (6-8 days) will also be held with the invitation of Ukrainian and foreign lecturers at the IPO of the KNU or/and UFML them. Taras Shevchenko. Meetings are scheduled for November, January and March.
According to the new Romanian Master of Mathematics regulations, only 4 participants and 2 managers from each country can take part in the event for free. Participation of all additional participants and managers will cost 400 euros per person. Therefore, only 4 participants who will show the best results at this year's IMO selection will represent Ukraine at the RMM in 2018. They can be joined by members of the IMO group who are able to pay for the specified office and the road to Bucharest.
Girls to participate in EGMO will be selected by a jury decision. These will be the ones who showed the best result, but not necessarily all of them should perform in the IMO group. Since Ukraine will hold the EGMO in April 2019, according to the regulations, we have the right to form two national teams – the main one and the junior. If we see the potential of our young girls, then maybe we will use this option. The junior team does not have to be of 4 girls. This year in Italy, 5 participants performed from the hosts, that is, exactly 1 participant took part in the junior team, in fact, she performed in the personal standings.
If, according to the timing of our team, it will be possible to participate in the Belarusian Republican Olympiad (as it happened last year), then its composition will also be formed taking into account the selection for the IMO, but it will be more oriented to the Junior group.
Let me remind you that from August 27 to September 3, the Ukrainian team will take part in the MEMO, which will be held this year in Poland. We will tell about the course of events on our website.
XII All-Ukrainian Tournament of Mathematical Battles
named after Academician Lyashko
In pursuance of the Program of work with gifted youth Ukrainian Physics and Mathematics Lyceum of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, Kyiv-Pechersk Lyceum No. 171 "Leader" and charitable foundation "Athena" plan to hold the "XII All-Ukrainian tournament of mathematical battles named after Academician Lyashko I.I." for young mathematicians of Ukraine of 8-11 grades.
The tournament will be held from Saturday 27 October to Saturday 3 November.
The tournament aims at the following tasks:
- involvement of young mathematicians in creative competition;
- preparation of young Ukrainian mathematicians for All-Ukrainian Olympiads of all levels;
- promoting the establishment of professional and friendly contacts of students of the tournament participants by teachers, scientists and the best students and postgraduate students of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv.
The organizer and coordinator of the tournament is Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, with the support of educational institutions in Kyiv. The competition is planned to be held in three age groups: junior league (students not older than 8th grade), middle league (students of 9th grade) and senior league (students of 10-11 grades). The program of the tournament includes mathematical zanzibar, team olympiad, 4 rounds of mathematical battles and oral personal Olympiad.
The task for the Tournament is developed by a qualified jury, which has been preparing the participants of the Ukrainian team for international mathematical competitions for more than one year. The tournament is held within the framework of the autumn instructional meeting, in which we invite the winners of the THIRD and IV stages of the All-Ukrainian Olympiads in Mathematics, students of leading mathematical educational institutions of Ukraine.
The exact cost of participation will be given in September, when we find out this year's prices of our participants' stay in the UFML. Registration for this event will be announced within the same period.
Teams consisting of 6 students in each league will take part in the tournament. From individual schoolchildren who want to participate in the tournament, but their educational institution cannot (do not prefer) to send a full team, teams will be formed to fully participate in the competition. Applications can be submitted by teachers of schools and universities, heads of clubs and electives, parents and other adult relatives of potential participants. The number of teams that can take part in the Tournament is limited only by the capabilities of the UFML – by the number of places in the dormitory, classes and rooms for preparing and conducting competitions, the dining room, etc. Therefore, each application will be considered and an appropriate ruling will be made in relation to it.
To settle in a dormitory of the UFML, you must have a standard medical certificate with you that you can stay in a dormitory / hotel and take part in the tournament.
