Information for the jury
I ask all potential jury members of the 2017-2018 season to meet for a small meeting (10 – 20 minutes)
on Friday, September 8 at 14.10 at the Faculty of Cybernetics near the audience 221.
Mathematical Zanzibar September 10, 2017
Again, we will begin the year with a mathematical zanzibar.
As always – this is the first event of the XIV tournament of mathematical battles named after Lesya Rubleva. As in all recent years, the tournament (including mathematical zanzibar) will be held in four leagues: the youngest (not older than 7th grade), junior (8 classes), middle (9 classes) and senior (10 – 11 classes). Permissible, but not desirable, the participation of some students or entire teams in a higher parallel compared to their true learning class.
We will present the exact schedule of the event later upon registration. We would like to emphasize that two leagues will start the competition at 10:00, and two more at 10:30.
At 10:45 a.m., a meeting with teachers will begin. We ask everyone who cares to read the program of our activities so that we can adjust it in the current mode if there are reasonable proposals to change or approve the proposed deadlines. Here are our plans for those who did not have time to familiarize themselves with them earlier:
As always in recent years, we ask that there are not too many teams from one educational institution. If it is not possible to place all registered teams in normal conditions, we will reduce participation from such schools.
It is very undesirable not to arrive at the zanzibar teams for which the organizing committee has participated. It is completely impossible for teams that have not been registered at all to participate in the event, or those for whom a decision has been made to refuse, regarding their participation. Similarly, it is not possible to participate in one team of more than 6 students.
Usually , such problems arise when team leaders simply give all the questions of registration for children. Ody often has such a situation – the school said 3 teams of 6 children, while the composition of each team was not agreed. As a result, 14 children come to Zanzibar and immediately there is a proposal from the teacher/parents to make 2 teams of 7 children. Obviously, this immediately puts other teams in unequal conditions. Therefore, do not be offended on the day of the event that this will be denied.
From each educational institution, please put:
no more than 3 teams in the youngest league,
No more than 2 teams in junior,
no more than 2 teams of medium and
no more than 4 teams in the senior.
Participation of teams from an educational institution that does not exceed these quotas is free of charge. For each additional team above the given quota, which will be allowed to participate, it will be necessary to deposit 200 UAH to the cash desk of our tournament. If it turns out that there will be a significant selection of teams in certain leagues, then some of them may refuse to participate. We will inform the educational institutions about our decision to reduce the number of their teams in the event, but the representatives of the educational institution will decide which teams to leave and which teams to withdraw (or simply reformat the compositions of all teams). The team registration speed should not affect this decision.
I also ask teachers to help children get acquainted with the rules of "mathematical zanzibar" so that children do not lose points because of misunderstanding or misinterpretation of the rules. The main nuances of Zanzibar are that the team in full solves all tasks in random order. As soon as she believes she has solved the problem and is ready to give the jury an answer, she passes the recorded response to the jury. Then there is the recalculation of points in all teams for this task. Let me remind you that with the correct answer of the next team, everyone who has solved it correctly receives 1 point less, and with the wrong answer – 1 point more. Therefore, unlike other competitions, with your wrong answer, you do not lose your chances to score points on this task, but also increase the achievement of opponents. Do not forget that if there are several correct answers in the task, then only guiding them all is counted.
Registration for mathematical zanzibar
Mathematical zanzibar is a team competition. Each team must have 3 to 6 students. Each team receives 20 tasks. The duration of the event in all leagues is 2 hours (120 minutes). If individual participants wish to participate in the event, they must use that site or by any other means to team up. This is also necessary for further participation in the 14th Kiev tournament of mathematical battles named after Lesya Rublev, which is quite a team competition.
Registration will start on this site from the moment of its appearance and will last until 21:00 on Wednesday, September 6. After that, the distribution of teams by audiences, the exact start time of the competition and other information will be given.
Be careful, for the correct and correct registration of each team, you should fill in the following fields:
- Educational institution
- Team name (or team captain)
- Contact person responsible for the team (math teacher, club leader, team organizer, etc.)
- Contact phone number (won't show on site)
Glory to Ukraine!
